Laurelhurst is a high-end residential neighborhood in SE Portland. Real estate in Laurelhurst is made up of well-appointed vintage homes drawing from a wide variety of architectural influences. Formally a farm, the 144 acre parcel was bought by The Laurelhurst Company in 1909 from The Ladd Estate Company (developer of Ladd’s Addition). The neighborhood was designed with the help of landscape architect John Charles Olmsted. Laurelhurst’s undulating streets are an interesting break from the grid system surrounding the neighborhood and help to keep traffic speeds down. The City of Portland purchased 31 acres of the parcel to build Laurelhurst Park. At the time it was dubbed “a high class residence park”, the description remains apt to this day but obviously all visitors are welcome. With a graceful balance of sophistication, neighborhood charm and easy access to downtown it is no wonder that Laurelhurst is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in SE Portland.
